Simon graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2006 and went straight into a large equine practice for ten years. His main interests include equine lameness, poor performance and orthopaedic surgery. Simon is also an official FEI vet; he works at many local British Evening competitions which include international events. Simon was British show jumping team vet for 7 years where he attended multiple nations cup and European championships and world championships across the globe. He still plays an active role within British Equestrian but is currently concentrating on developments at Lower House Equine Clinic
Interests: Equine orthopaedics, Surgery and Advanced Dentistry.
Career Highlight: Working as the GB team vet.
DR MARTIN FERNANDEZ CALLEJO
CertAVP MRCVS
Martin graduated from Leon university in 1998, following this he practiced and studied equine physiotherapy in Barcelona university.
Martin then did a two-year externship in equine hospitals across the world.
After working ten years in private clinic in Spain Martin then decided to come across to England to work, however due to the pandemic in 2020 Martin then transferred to Saudi Arabia specialising in sport medicine.
Martin joined LHEC in October 2023, whilst here with us in the UK he is also a resident in sport medicine.
In his free time, he enjoys been in the outdoors or studying and carrying out research to further his knowledge.
Dr MEREDITH JARMAN BSc (Hons) BVetMed PgCert (VPS) CertAVP MRCVS
Meredith joins us when we are particularly busy or to cover vet absences and is a valued member of our team. Meredith obtained a first class honours in equine science before vet school, and then graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2014. She then moved to do an internship at Ballarat Veterinary Practice in Australia with a high surgical caseload of racehorses, where she carried out a lot of anaesthesia, in patient care and diagnostic imaging. Following this she worked at Gold Coast Equine Clinic (briefly crossing paths with our old vet Freya!) where she worked with a mixture of racehorses and pleasure horses on the road and in the hospital, and more anaesthesia! She moved back to the UK in 2019 and has been locuming ever since. Alongside all of this she has also carried out charity work in The Gambia and was a vet for the The Gaucho Derby earlier this year in Patagonia. She has also recently obtained her CertIficate of Advanced Veterinary Practice in equine lameness and diagnostic imaging as well as a post graduate certificate in Veterinary professional studies. She is a keen horse rider and first joined us at the end of the summer following completion of the Mongol Derby! We are really pleased to have such a dedicated and experienced locum vet join our team to help us when needed and we hope you will join us in giving her a warm welcome.

DR EMILY MOUND BVMSci MRCVS
Emily graduated from the University of Surrey in 2021, before moving to Ireland to undertake a rotating internship at Fethard Equine Hospital. During this time, she performed anaesthesia, lameness investigations, in patient and neonatal care in an area with high racehorse and mare and foal caseloads. Emily then moved to the United States to complete a Surgical internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Kentucky. Here, she performed more anaesthesia and participated in a very busy out of hours service. Emily moved back to the UK and joined Lower House Equine Clinic in June 2023. She is enjoying getting to know the clients and the area. In her spare time, Emily can usually be found at the nearest racecourse.

CASSIE WOODS BSC (HONS) RVN
EQUINE NURSE AND PARTNER
Cassie is our qualified equine nurse and practice partner. Alongside the running of the clinic, Cassie’s main roles include overseeing the care of the in patients, assisting and running our theatre, and all aspects of equine nursing care and support to our vets.
Cassie has a degree in Bio-veterinary science and has many years of previously working in equine and small animal practice. Cassie regularly lectures for BVNA and BEVA, she is also a member of the BEVA equine nurse committee and a member of the BEVA trust committee.
Interests: Equine medicine, foal care and radiography
Career Highlight: Working at the London 2012 Olympics as a veterinary technician.
VETERINARY GROOMS
DUNCAN POTTER
STUDENT VETERINARY NURSE
Duncan is our full-time groom and student veterinary nurse.
Duncan has BTEC level 3 diploma in horse management (QCF). Long term he has the aspiration to become an equine veterinary nurse and so is enjoying seeing cases and learning in his role while developing this career choice.
Duncan is also interested in animal welfare and psychology.
Outside of work: Duncan has a part bred Welsh chestnut called pumpkin.
Beth Bray
WEEKEND GROOM
Beth is our weekend groom and occasionally covers holidays for us. Her role involves all aspects of equine stable care and horsemanship and understanding the importance and implementing biosecurity measures. Beth is currently studying at college during the week aswel as working at a local competition yard.
Summer 2024 Beth will be headed to camp America, and we very much look forward to hearing all about what she gets upto on her return.
VETERINARY ADMINISTRATION
ANNA BLADES
ASSISTANT PRACTICE MANAGER
Anna is our assistant practice manager she has worked in the veterinary sector for over 6 years with a mixture of Farm and small animal practices, she comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and Customer service skills. Annas role includes assisting the front office with all administrative tasks including diary management and assisting the partners with recruitment, site maintenance and all other ad hoc tasks.
Outside of work: Anna can be found getting lost in hills of Wales with her border collie Tessie, and more recently back into the saddle horse riding.
BART WOODS
PRACTICE SUPERVISOR
Bart is our mischievous practice supervisor who keeps everyone on their toes and has everyone wrapped around his paw, he likes to try everyone’s lunch for them before they have chance to unwrap the packaging, aswel as overseeing meetings, greeting visitors and keeping a check on the inpatients, he is partial to his nap time and looks forward to the summer months of been able to bathe in the sun on the front yard.
Interests: Food, Students, sleeping and being on duty for British eventing competitions.
SAM SHAW
VETERINARY ADMINISTRATOR
Sam is our veterinary administrator and looks after all of our client accounts. Sam’s roles include inputting the vets work, arranging the vet’s diary and credit control aswel as liaising with insurance companies and referral centres.
Sam has previously worked within the veterinary and customer service industry and has also evented, and team chased.
She brings a wealth of experience in both customer support and equine.
Outside of work: Sam is a keen swimmer and enjoys socialising.
JANE MACPHERSON
VETERINARY ADMINISTRATOR
Jane is one of our veterinary administrators, her role includes booking vets work, arranging visits, assisting clients, and helping to organise everything at the clinic. She also enjoys helping with the in patients and helping the vets when an extra pair of hands is required. Jane joins us with a great deal of experience having previously working in several equine and farm practices.
Outside of work: Jane is married to a local vet with two children and has Ferd the horse and Wispa the dog, Jane is a keen dressage rider and currently rides up to advanced medium level.
IZZY ROBERTS
VETERINARY ADMINISTRATOR
Izzy is one of our veterinary administrators who works with us 3 days per week, Izzy’s role includes arranging vet visits and organisation of the vet’s diaries, assisting clients with any queries and ensuring all of our equipment is well serviced and maintained to a high standard. Many of you will have liaised with Izzy with regards to our client evenings.
She brings a wealth of equine knowledge and customer service experience to the team.
Outside of work: Izzy is a keen rider and can be found competing with her horse Wizard.
SUE PEARSON
VETERINARY ADMINISTRATOR
Sue comes to us with 43 Year’s experience in veterinary practice, 10 of those years within equine veterinary practice, Sue is one of our veterinary administrators with previous experience in management, Sue’s role includes taking client calls and answering any queries in a timely manner, arranging visits and overseeing of the vet’s diaries, aswel as keeping our in house surgical and inpatient records frequently audited and up to date.
Outside of work: Sue enjoys cooking and tending to her smallholding.

Neil joins us almost every month to provide additional dental expertise. Neil is originally from Ballyclare, Northern Ireland and qualified from Bristol University in 2004 and after a brief period in mixed practice, embarked on an equine career starting at Liverpool University as an intern, followed by a surgery residency at Edinburgh University. He then re-joined the Equine Hospital at Liverpool University in 2010 and has attained European Diplomas in both Equine Surgery and Equine Dentistry.
JIM BLURTON
REMEDIAL FARRIER
Jim is a well known respected local farrier and we are very lucky to have his expertise on the doorstep. Jim was the head farrier at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics. Jim has represented his country for 35 years in home internationals and world events. He has won over 200 competitions world wide. Jim finally achieved his dream of becoming best in the world in 2005. After nearly 15 years of regularly finishing in the top 5 of the world championships Jim was crowned world champion in Calgary in July 2005. Jim joins for monthly referral clinics working alongside our vets and other local farriers on more complex cases.
